It's a digital world

This is a photo of a demonstration in Egypt on 01/01/2011: how many people with cameras do you see? I count 4. How many of these pics will find their way into social media? Is this citizen journalism? Clearly this transforms journalism.

Egyptians clearly have digital media at their disposal. Why do I meet so few people from developing countries in social media? Language barrier? Infrastructure barrier? Or do they simply not have the time to tweet?

Of course the category “developing country” is faulty, as there are huge differences between developing countries.

Will social media help to create understanding between cultures?

Will the internet be a melting pot for cultures, lifestyles and job opportunities?
