Do you see that bot sit

November 15, 2011 Leave a comment

I live in the internet world – but what a bot or a bit really are defies my imagination. Writing around that a bit … a bot …

Do you see that bot sit
on the little odd bit?
What’s it going to do?
I don’t have a clue.

It’s on or off or good or bad
it’s yes or no or happy or sad.
There’s going to be a decision
that’s the bot’s mission.

They sit and chat a millionth second
They’ll never meet again I reckon.
The song of the bot and the bit
And this is it.

Translation of Franz Kafka: The Next Village.

My Grandfather used to say: “Life is stunningly short. Now, looking back it compresses so much for me that I can hardly understand how a young man can make up his mind to ride to the next village without fearing that – disregarding unhappy accidents – the time of the normally and happily elapsing life will never be enough for such a ride.”

Franz Kafka. Translated from German by Detlef

If you burn like a candle you don’t know why you burn

… and not how long.
… and not for whom.

Which is not always  pleasant.

If you bloom like a rose you don’t know why you bloom

… and not whether anybody does see you.
… and not whether you are beautiful.

Which is just as it is.

Silence rising

February 2, 2011 Leave a comment

Silence rising out of the abyss of dreams.
The sun of reason climbing up to the sky.
Weird creatures,
strange voices,
illogical strings of action:
they retreat into their sleeping dens.

Everything has a cause now
and is wide open to explanation.
The world is friendlier place
because I can controll it.
But if someone takes my right right of way
I threaten with my fist,
ready to fight.
Some creatures wake up so easily …

The Sun is Up

January 29, 2011 Leave a comment

The sun is up.
Sweet morning light.
The sun is up.
End of the night.

The sun is up.
A brand new day.
The sun is up.
Shines on your way.

And even when the sky seems (to be) bleak and grey.
When it’s just all the old same old, same old.
The sun is always up and here to stay.
It’s in your heart just waiting to unfold.

The sun is up.
It’s in your eyes.
The sun is up
as in the skies.

The sun is up – it’s always up to you.
It’s just a matter of what you think or do.
And if the eye not like the sun would be
the very sun it could not see.

Suddenly I realized I was happy then

January 28, 2011 Leave a comment

Suddenly I realized I was happy then
and there, where I didn’t notice:
Hey, I’m happy!

Time is a wonderful thing
when it gets vertical in the mind.
When it is not getting later and later,
but deeper and deeper.

Suddenly I realized that time does not steal,
but reveal.
The flavor of one moment unfolding over years.

One moment rising like a bird into the sky of time,
singing, singing, rising proudly.

To the sun.

Putting thoughts into their appropriate backgrounds

January 12, 2011 Leave a comment

To put a rational thought into its emotional background is like putting a flower to its proper place in a garden.

Or: perhaps “a stone” is a more appropriate metaphor for a thought? Like stones in a Feng Shui garden? Are there Feng Shui gardens or is it only inside the house?

How do you give the emotional background of a thought? How do you really share the point from which you are uttering a thought? How do you connect it with your whole inner word?

With an image, a melody?
